2020 Nite Nationals
We are calling on the Nite Nationals for January 3-5, 2019 for Lake Puckaway, Princeton, Wisconsin. The sheet of ice has held up well for all the conditions it has gone through during the past few days. Currently there is 6 inches of ice with about a half inch of water on top. The landings still have thickness and are solid. It has not been fully scouted or sailed since the weather events but will be scouted in the beginning of the week. We have another weather event coming in tonight (Sunday) into tomorrow which could make the decision for us. However, we felt an early announcement should be made. This will be a 2 1/2 day event with races starting at 1 PM CT on Friday. The final call will be Wednesday January 1st at 8 PM CT. Watch the class website and Facebook page for updates and NOR’s.

Nite sailors I hope your ready!!!
The Nite Commodore and NIte Treasurer just got off the ice at Lake Puckaway and found just about pristine conditions. We recorded 2 1/4 inches of hard optically clear ice that drilled real hard. Though we are not at the 5 inch mark we would like initially, I believe we will get there by Saturday morning. This is a shallow lake with a max depth at about 7 ft so we know that will help this whole equation as well.
The weather forecast has snow coming on Thursday and we are not sure the full extent of what we may get, so as of now we will be planning as if a Nite regatta will be happening this weekend. We will do a final confirmation tomorrow.
Since there should be a lot of ice sheet available on Lake Puckaway, we would like to cordially invite the DN class to come share the ice with us and sail their Western Challenge on Lake Puckaway. It is the iceboater way to do things.
Please respect the landings should you come early and also the locals who maybe ice fishing.
Thanks,
Nite Class Commodore

What Nite sailor will win it all this season?
Guess what, it’s time for the 4LIYC Nite fleet to get organized for the upcoming season. Last year, we met Dave and Busters. This year we are branching out and sampling what Monona has to offer. There is a lot to get straightened out because we have an O-fficial club meeting coming the following week. Rumor or plain lie [unconfirmed – Ed.] has it that Tim McCormick is purchasing Don’s backup Nite. (Does one really have a backup Nite? Hmmmm.) We can discuss round marks vs triangle marks, which bar is better – Springer’s or Good Old Days, you get the picture.
Remember he or she who doesn’t show gets elected . Congrats Fleet Captain. Ha ha!

If you’re an ice sailor, the cold front moving across the Midwest (which has prompted a freeze warning opportunity) is a good sign of things to come. Snow is falling out in DN Western Challenge land in Minnesota.
Nite class Commodore John Hayashi shares news about an early-season Nite regatta:
The Nite class is adding an early season regatta to the mix for the end of 2019. Hopefully there will be good ice in the upper Midwest so that we can get new Nite owners up to speed and out on the ice sooner than normal. Now is the time to work on your Nites, don’t wait for those last minute repairs or new parts.

Via Nite Class Commodore John Hayashi:
190 Is the Old 180
The recent Nite ballot passed. The class welcomes new rules that strictly define our runners, makes our masts and sails more uniform, and cleans up our rules so that they are more in sync with the National Iceboat Authority rules.
Our minimum skipper weight has increased from 180 to 190 lbs for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. The cherry on top of the Sunday is the ability to sail Nite Nationals the first weekend in January. Nothing like gaining three weeks, is there? Thanks to all that were involved and see you on the ice.
