Skeeter Ice Boat Club skipper Jane Pegel writes: "The yellow #169 is the last skeeter I owned before shifting to DNs. I think the photo is in front of Lake Lawn on Delavan Lake.  The boat with the mahogany deck belonged to Harry Melges, Bud's father.  I started sailing my skeeter when I was in high school in the late forties.  It was a 20 foot Mead.  In the early 50s we rebuilt it and put a springboard on it, a 17 ft. plank, and a 22 ft. mast.  Prior to going to the 1956 ISA in Hamilton, my father took it over to Melges Boat Wks to have some work done on it, I think the nose was beginning to crack.  Well, as they worked on it they sawed through the chines.  We went to Hamilton and in the first race it broke in two.  We cut a section out of the side panel with the name "Calamity Jane" and Bob still has that in his office. The following fall I got a new DN and never looked back.  Been in DNs ever since."
