2010 International Renegade Ice Yacht Racing Association Regatta

2010 Notice of Race
The IRIYA is normally held in conjunction with the ISA regatta. Once again, it is likely the IRIYA regatta will be held independently of the ISA regatta.

All races will be sailed under the rules of the National Iceboat Authority and those of the International Renegade Ice Yacht Association. The regatta will be scheduled on January 8,9,10, 2010.

The first race will be held at 10:00 AM (local time) on Friday, January 8, 2010. In the event the IRIYA regatta is postponed, the IRIYA regatta will not be scheduled on the same weekend as the Northwest Ice Yacht Association (NIYA) regatta. The NIYA regatta will take precedence.

Awards shall be given to the yachts placing first through eighth. Entry fee is $15.00 per yacht payable upon registration. Registration will be at regatta headquarters from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM (local time) on January 8, 2010.

Five (5) races are scheduled and three (3) are necessary to complete the regatta. If the IRIYA regatta is held separately from the ISA regatta, there will be seven (7) races scheduled and four (4) races are necessary to complete the regatta. Skippers may obtain sailing instructions at the time of registration.

For confirmation of the regatta dates, the primary source of information will be the IRIYA web site (www.iceboat.org/renegade.html) beginning at 1:00 PM CST on January 3, 2010. For final confirmation go to website after 1:00 PM CST on January 6, 2010.

If computer access is unavailable, the secondary source of information will be the Renegade Hotline number (608-204-9876 x3) beginning at 1:00 PM CST on January 6, 2010.

Information as to the site, headquarters, and accommodations will be available at 1:00 PM CST on January 6, 2010. Members of the Race Committee can also provide regatta information.

The Original Renegade II Turns Up In Barn!

Via Renegade Association Secretary Ron Rosten: "These photos were sent to me from Gord Devries of Trenton Ontario, who recently picked up an old iceboat just sitting in someone’s barn. The old boat that Gord picked up turned out to be Renegade II built by Elmer Millenbach in 1941. The previous owner used it to make a plug for fiberglass hulls. Gord is currently restoring the boat and will be sailing one of those fiberglass Renegades until the wooden boat is complete. Can you see where Elmer signed and dated the mast reinforcing between bulkheads number 7 and 8? Elmer won the ISA with this boat in 1948, and keep in mind he was competing against both the Skeeters and Renegades.
